It was meant to be.
On November 21st, 2015 at 30,000 feet in the air, Kylie Cole, our founder and CEO, created the Capes & Crowns Foundation. At 6 am on a flight to Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in San Jose, CA, the idea sparked followed by 1.5 hours of scribbling and brainstorming on napkins and barf bags. As the plane landed, the first draft of the business plan and the name Capes & Crowns was born. She hit the ground running and has yet to look back. After obtaining our 501(c)3 tax exempt status just 47 days after dreaming up the foundation, she knew this foundation was something special. She received so much encouragement and support which pushed her to pursue this dream. What started as a one-woman show has blossomed to an amazing volunteer run organization with over 20 members of the ever-growing creative team and 8 admin volunteers.

The Origin story
Before the flight, Capes & Crowns was something else entirely. What was originally meant to be a birthday party company, was suddenly derailed for a much better purpose. In July of 2015, Kylie had gathered 12 families whom she had never met before for a “model call” to prepare stock images for her new website. She had no idea that when she would meet Elijah (Thor) that everything would one day change. Unbeknownst to her, Elijah had cancer (Ewings Sarcoma) and what was at first a simple photo shoot, became an extremely empowering experience for not only Elijah and his family but for her as well. Elijah’s shoot was the original inspiration and a huge catalyst behind the origination of this organization. Capes & Crowns was destined to be something greater, and greater it became!
